Liquid sidechain
Liquid is Blockstream’s 1 : 1 bitcoin‑backed sidechain created to enable fast asset swaps. In September a hack exploited an inflation bug to create more than 4,000 LBTC token units that did not correspond to real bitcoin, allowing thieves to withdraw ~4,000 BTC (≈$320 M at the time). Blockstream negotiated to recover most of the stolen funds, and on October 20 the Liquid Network announced it was in the final recovery phase with enhanced security. Federation re‑establishment and full 1 : 1 bitcoin backing have been restored, and swaps between L‑BTC, main‑chain BTC and Lightning are back online.
